Nowadays, it seems like a drinking water filter is a necessity with all the pollution in the supply. However, not all are created equal and careful selection is needed to get the purest supply.

Our bodies are made up of 70% water as you are probably aware, so the quality of what we consume has a direct impact on the quality of our health. Recent studies confirm we have thousands of toxins in the supply like herbicides, lead and prescription drugs, many of them carcinogenic.

Drinking water filters must be up to the task in hand, which is getting harder by the day with the modern phenomenon of pharmaceuticals in the supply. Their synthetic molecules are extremely small and get through most home water treatments easily.

As a home purifier is going to be one the best health investments you will ever make, you want your hard earned dollars to get the very best and cost-effective product. The EPA only recommends carbon filter systems as being effective enough to remove most contaminants.

In addition it should employ a multi-stage process with ion exchange to remove 99% of all contaminants. Check with the manufacturers performance data sheet to see exactly what they remove. It should be on their website, if not, just ask for a copy.

Remember that bottled water is not a good alternative to the tap variety either, as it has far less regulation and has been shown to contain as many toxins. The only difference is you pay as much for it as gas for your car and you also add to the environmental burden!

A reverse osmosis system drinking water filter removes almost all trace minerals like calcium and potassium that we need to stay healthy, however, these minerals are also availabe naturally in our food so we should not be at risk of becoming mineral deficient. The multi-stage types I mentioned earlier leave those minerals in.

So as you can see, once you know what to look for, you can ensure you are fully protected and have healthy safe water as it should be.
