We’ve all been told that drinking plenty of water is essential for good health. It’s great for your skin and for keeping your vital organs functioning properly. However, few people realize that drinking plenty of water can also help you to strip unwanted fat. This is good news for those people who aren’t crazy about jogging, long hours sweating in the gym or spending money on expensive exercise equipment.
Because most people don’t consume enough water, they live in a chronically dehydrated state. When the body isn’t getting enough water, it does it’s best to retain it for emergency situations. The water it stores has to end up somewhere on the body, so it ends up packed away where it creates unsightly bulges. The answer to this problem is simply to drink more water. Once you get into the habit of drinking enough water, the body will get the message that it no longer needs to store it away. For those of you who are worried about too many bathroom trips, you’ll be happy to know that this annoying side effect wears off as soon as your body grows accustomed to being provided with all the water it needs.
Drinking water even helps burn calories. How is this possible? The liver has the job of metabolizing fat in the human body and converting it into energy. Furthermore, the liver also assists overworked kidneys with their job of removing waste from the body. When the human body is in a dehydrated state, the kidneys won’t function at optimal efficiency, which means the liver has to pick up some of the workload. When that happens, the liver isn’t able to put as much energy towards metabolizing fat. To avoid this problem, make sure that both your liver and kidneys are working properly by drinking plenty of water.
Finally, drinking plenty of water throughout the day will make your stomach feel more full and you won’t confuse thirst with hunger. Sometimes people will grab an unhealthy snack, such as a candy bar when drinking a glass of water would have satisfied their craving. Also, drinking water at least 30 minutes before a meal will not only make you feel more full, but it also aids digestion. In fact, heartburn is a signal of water shortage in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract.
The health benefits of drinking plenty of water are countless. To name a few more, it can help lubricate the spinal column, clear up skin problems, tighten pores, relieve migraine headaches and even improve blood pressure.
To reap the benefits of drinking water, it’s best to consume eight to ten 8 ounce glasses a day. You need not eliminate caffeinated soda or coffee from your diet altogether. Instead, you may drink two additional glasses of water for every cup of coffee or glass of soda you drink. If you don’t like drinking plain water, you may want to try adding a few drops of lemon. You may also find several brands of flavored water at your local grocery store. Finally, carry a bottle of water with you at all times.
